Services for Colleges:
Basic Skills Training Resources
This is a community
college resource page. If your local businesses indicate an
interest in Workplace Literacy and Basic Skills, we can share
some ready-made course materials or other resources that would be
helpful to you.
Class Materials:
Our Product List contains curricula titles that have been created
either fully or partially with grant funds and can be shared with
you upon your request. Many of these consist of a syllabus or
course outline, teacher notes, pre/post tests, and complete class
materials--essentially, a class ready to go. We have most of our
curricula materials on diskette, which makes adapting or
customizing them relatively easy. (We have additional curricula
in our files that are not on this list because they were produced
with client funds; while we would not be free to disseminate
them, we could provide technical assistance by sharing sample
excerpts with you and talking with you about how these classes
were designed. For example, we have Vocational English as a
Second Language curricula that we designed for telephone
companies and electronics manufacturers, Spanish for pesticide
company clerks, and business writing for a variety of agencies.)
The other 11 Workplace Learning Resource Centers at California
Community Colleges also have products that they can disseminate.
For example, San Diego CCD WpLRC has an excellent Workplace
Instructor Training CD with accompanying workbook that is
excellent for faculty new to workplace learning. City College of
San Francisco's WpLRC has two excellent Vocational ESL CDs for
the hospitality industry.
Workplace Library
Our Library Inventory is available to Northern California
Community Colleges only. Resources include assessment
instruments, lesson plans with handouts, complete course
curricula, texts, reference books, audiotapes, videotapes,
software, and equipment. All of these are available for in-house
use, and many are available for check out. Located at 1410 Ethan

Technical Assistance - Free Consultations
If you have
clients who are requesting services in basic skills assessments,
curriculum design, or training, and do not have sufficient
background in this area, we can provide free consultations and technical assistance to you to help you assist your clients in this area. Moreover, if you have detailed questions about some of our curricula that we may have disseminated to you, we can connect you with the actual curriculum writers who can best answer your questions.
