Workplace Instructor Duties and Requirements
Job Duties May Include:
- Interface with a wide variety of people
- Lead and/or attend focus groups
- Administer, score, & interpret assessments
- Develop training programs
- Customize curriculum
- Create assessment or training materials
- Deliver training
- Evaluate programs
- Write and present training reports
- Complete other
grant-funded projects (e.g. tally and analyze survey results,
create multimedia instructional modules, or develop distance
learning courses)
Requirements:
- Masters degree or equivalent
- Acceptance into Los Rios
Community College District's teaching pool, if applicable
- Professional demeanor
- Flexibility
- Computer skills
Desirable Qualities:
- Experience in a business setting

Both the Workplace Learning
Resource Center and the Training Source provide a variety of job
opportunities for workplace instructors. To apply for Workplace
Assignments in the Greater Sacramento Area, call the Workplace
Learning Resource Center at (916) 563-3253 or the Training Source
at (916) 563-3230. We can also connect you with an appropriate
California contact for areas outside of Sacramento. Be prepared
to submit an updated resume.
Make Sure Your Resume Includes:
- The subject areas, courses, or workshops you can teach
- Workplace experience in training, assessment, or curriculum design
- ANY other work (even
volunteer or as an intern) in a small business, corporate,
service, or manufacturing environment, or with any CBOs
(Community-Based Organizations.)
- Workplace-related workshops you've attended in recent years.
- Other unique talents or
experience you could offer (e.g. computer design skills for
promoting classes….)
- Various ways you can be
reached (phone, voicemail, pager, fax, email, or web site)
Additional Suggestions:
- Show Coordinators /
Directors any workplace-related curriculum you have developed.
- Ask your supervisor/dean
to write or phone in a recommendation about your strong
teaching skills.
- Ask to observe (or substitute in) a workplace class.
- At Workplace Learning
Resource Centers or other school libraries, STUDY customized
texts prepared for actual company training programs; study
commercial texts targeted at a workplace audience.
- Read workplace and
literacy journals, newsletters, and texts to learn trends and
statistics; study business vocabulary.
- Attend conferences and
workshops on this topic; "network" with presenters
and participants.
- Complete the Workplace
Instructor Training CD (available through the Workplace
Learning Resource Centers.)
- Return to our web site
periodically to check on upcoming workshops, conferences, and
other resources.
